Growth and Decay: HeMesh

I have been trying to figure out the best way to manipulate 3D forms so that they are able to dynamically change their shape based on the environment. I came across HeMesh, a fantastic library for Processing by Frederik Vanhoutte. HeMesh is based on half-edge data structures for meshes, which records the connection between points along with the faces and vertices. Once a mesh is created, it can be changed and distorted using modifiers. When used in combination, these modifiers create unique and unexpected forms. Below are some of my early experiments with HeMesh

As you can see, HeMesh is a pretty powerful library and I am barely scratching the surface. For these experiments, I was explicitly modifying these forms. Imagine what would happen if I allow these shapes to evolve and grow on their own? The possibilities are intriguing.
